| So I think I'll just post my favourite bands here... 1. On the top is Equilibrium. I dont know, it's just their attitude I love so much, their (mostly) joyful and fast-paced melody, their happiness about making music that makes me want to listen to them over and over. 2. So, let's see... Yeah, it's Finntroll. Definately. Their whole style is so amazing, so joyful and dark at the same time. I LOVE that. It's just... everything I like about them. 3. I think here comes Amorphis. Their whole skill of creating emotion and heavy metal makes me want to listen to them. I love the voice of their singer, who can sing clean and scream/grunt aswell. 4. Rhapsody of Fire follows on the foot. I don't know why, but I noticed that the least of you seem to have them in their favourite list, but I guess it's just about their jumpy-classical Metal style. And thats the reason I like them for, you can see that they actually love what they do, and they just do it, no matter what people think about them. Also, I kind of like how they try to tell a story with their discography. Of course, least who don't speak english very well did notice that (well, at least I didn't, like until one or two years ago). 5. It seems that this is the right place for Arch Enemy. At times when I'm not so happy, I really like to listen to them, having a full metal sound in my ears and enjoy Angela Gossows great screaming (don't get this one wrong ). 6. And here are: Adorned Brood! I think one of the lesser known German Metal Bands, but definately one I like. They combine full Metal with a transverse flute and great singers. The only problem about them is, that their english singing... needs getting used to. 7. Here is the place for Children of Bodom. Kind of odd, if you get to know they were the only band I listened to for a long time. But this was before I knew many other bands, and so they sunk in my favourite ranks. But still, I like to listen to them at times and won't stop in near future to do so. 8. This place is reserved for Apocalyptica. I listened to them in my 'younger' ages (13-15 years) and I always liked to do so. Their combination of full Cello Metal and melodic cello concerts was something I always enjoyed. 9. Amon Amarth goes here. I like them most for their style. For me, it has something melancholic and full Metal at the sime time, and I think thats great to listen to. 10. And finally, there is DevilDriver. It's not like I don't like them, but there are so many great bands left (Agathodaimon, Lamb of God, Eluveitie, Battlelore, Dethklok, they're uncountable), I can't set them on a higher rank. But it speaks for them that I put them in the list . Their kind of emotional Metal is pretty addicting to me, and once I started listening to them, I can't stop to do so for a while. PS: Please excuse the explicit use o the word 'full Metal'. I just couldn't think of a better one. | |

| Wow, that's what I call a top10 list :-)
Nice that you mentioned Adorned Brood, I think there are not many guys who know them, but somehow they were pretty much one of the first pagan metal bands ever I guess.

| I love doing top tens. <3 The Totally Awesome List
1. Death I love Death. Seriously. If I could pick one dead guy to bone, it would have to be Chuck Schuldiner. I first discovered the band when I listened to their The Sound of Perseverance album. At the time, I really didn't think much of them (TSoP is my least favorite album of theirs). However, as I began to listen to their older material, I was astounded by what I had been missing out on. I came to realize that TSoP was a gross misrepresentation of their sound, and that records like Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy spoke more to the true Death. I've been hooked ever since. -Favorite album(s): Spiritual Healing, Scream Bloody Gore, Symbolic-
2. Running Wild Running Wild are, regrettably, a more recent discovery of mine. I'd heard quite a bit about them, but had never checked them out. Then, my buddy, Red, turned me on to their Under Jolly Roger album. Man oh man, I couldn't believe I had never bothered to listen to them before. It was early German Heavy/Power at its best, and pirate-themed to boot! I scrambled to get ahold of some other Running Wild albums, and became even more enthralled with the band. Sadly, they began to go somewhat downhill after a while, but I'll always remain faithful to, at the very least, early Running Wild. -Favorite album(s): Port Royal, Death or Glory, Blazon Stone-
3. Orphaned Land Before I talk about this amazing group of Israeli fellows, I need to say one thing: I'm a complete sucker for anything that sounds remotely Middle-Eastern. Which is probably why I jizz my pants over these guys. They play an amazing brand of Progressive Folk Metal. They manage to combine the best of both worlds in quite a few aspects of their music; there are hoarse growls, full to the brim with emotion, right alongside some of the most hauntingly beautiful male and female cleans I've ever heard. There are moments of headbang-inducing riffage, and soft, melodic interludes. I can't get enough of these guys, and for all intents and purposes, they're really tied for first with Death and Running Wild. -Favorite album(s): Mabool, The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR-
4. Ensiferum Ah, Ensiferum. How I love thee so. Thy enchanting melodies and heavy riffs play on, ad infinitum, even in my dreams. All sappiness aside, Ensiferum are an incredible band. They are, and will always be, without question, one of my all-time favorite Folk Metal bands. They can do no wrong in my eyes, even without Jari. Although I think I'll always prefer their debut album to anything else they put out, there will always be room in my iTunes library for more. -Favorite album(s): Ensiferum, Iron-
5. Holy Terror I'd love to say that I've had intimate knowledge of this band for quite a long time. I'd love to, but I'd be lying through my teeth. Although I heard my first Holy Terror track almost five months ago, it wasn't until a couple weeks back that I decided to get both of their full-length albums. Upon hearing them, a single question entered my mind: Why didn't I get these sooner!? Each and every track is a well-written, Thrashtastic masterpiece. The songs not only show off a nice amount technical skill and songwriting ability, but they are also really fucking catchy. You know a band is a damn good one when they make your top ten list in under two weeks. -Favorite album(s): Terror and Submission, Mind Wars-
6. Insomnium Insomnium are, in my mind, the essential Melodeath band. They are true masters of their craft, splicing heavy overtones with catchy, beautiful melodies. Honestly, I can't say that they've put out a single song that I haven't enjoyed. I realize that's quite a statement to make, but it's the truth. In my opinion, there will never be another Melodeath band quite as good as Insomnium. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've given any of their albums the good, long listen that they deserve. I'll have to get right on that. -Favorite album(s): In the Halls of Awaiting, Above the Weeping World-
7. Vektor These guys. THESE GUYS. They play some of the most thought-provoking, and yet testicle-stomping Thrash Metal you will ever hear. They blend Thrash with Progressive structures and Black undertones to create a masterwork of Metal art. The one aspect of Vektor's music that I flat-out love is the vocals. These are quite the turn-off for a lot of people, and I can understand why. They range from midrange, throaty growls up to some of the highest, banshee-like shrieks known to man. They're definitely a grower, but once you get used to them, you'll love them. -Favorite album(s): Black Future-
8. Skeletonwitch There's nothing that brightens up my day more than a little FIRE FROM THE MOTHERFUCKING SKY. Haha, no, seriously. If you've never heard these guys, I highly recommend you check them out. Blackened Thrash at its finest. The riffs, OH THE RIFFS. These guys are riffing juggernauts, playing some of the catchiest, most damningly beautiful music. Oh yeah, and the solos are nice as well. -Favorite album(s): Beyond the Permafrost, Breathing the Fire-
9. Mithotyn It's a shame this band broke up. They knew how to play Folk Metal, and boy did they ever play it. Their music had a really appealing Black overtone to it, and I think that's kind of what made them. Not that they wouldn't have been awesome playing straight Folk, but the Blackened sound works perfectly for them, and makes them truly awe-inspiring. -Favorite album(s): King of the Distant Forest-
10. Arsis This is kind of a strange place for Arsis on this list, because had they produced anything as good as their debut in the years that followed its release, they'd be right up there with Death and Running Wild. As it stands, they only had one good record. However, A Celebration of Guilt is, without one single doubt, my favorite Technical Death Metal album(and probably one of my favorite Metal albums in general) of all time. What makes this album so truly amazing is that it perfectly blends brutality and melody. It's got all the ability of Tech Death without any of the wank. A more perfect blend is hardly found in the genre. -Favorite album(s): A Celebration of Guilt- Yeah, so that's it, in a nutshell. There are other bands I wish I could have mentioned (Warbringer, Opeth, Coroner, Atheist), but they managed to get just slightly edged out by the ones you see above. Oh well. If I had to list all my favorites, this would probably end up being a top fifty list. xD | |
