Tool Empty
PostSubject: Tool   Tool EmptyAugust 23rd 2010, 18:53

Not sure what subgenre these guys really belong in. I remember the Undertow album was probably one of the few metal albums I bought in 1994, it may have been the only one. I loved it so much I bought the EP. Although I don't think any later albums compare, I remember listening to Lateralus on mushrooms one night and knowing it would not sound near as good the next morning. So the next morning I put it on and sure enough it just seemed grey and bland. I bought the wierd packaged 10,000 days and saw them live. Granted I was really sick and it was near a 20 hour day, so I was not in the best of moods, but they were extremely boring to watch. By watching the graphics on the big screens I guess I should have taken some meditative medicinal machination (sorry I couldn't resist), but I really like to remember the shows that I go to see. Tool has always been strange, but I think they have moved to strange for strangenesses sake. Anyway Undertow was, I think, an amazing step in the progression of metal. Taking it from from the simple 4/4 beats and parallel bass/guitar lines showing that metal could have very involved bass lines and syncopated drumming and still be heavy. If there was a Hall of Fame that had milestone metal albums Undertow would be one of them.
