This was the band that brought me back to the other side! Since metal went to shit in the late 80's and early 90's (I remember buying Metallica's Black album and not being able to wrap my brain around how disappointed I was). I kept buying albums and being disappointed until I just stopped buying them. Then decades later while working some of the younger guys I work with would bring metal CDs and play them. At first I wasn't interested but then I heard "The New Black" I couldn't beleive it. It was SO brutal sounding in parts, and so melodic in others. So many places where most bands would be scared to even think about (the jazz breakdown in Antiproduct complete with flute solo! Or the country shuffle beat for Monument!). Right from the beatdown blast of You Suck to the beautiful meloncholy Almost Again it just blew my mind! It was the last album for SYL, but it opened my ears to many new (and old) metal bands that I had missed in my hiatis. VIVA METALIS!
